Olakira Tented Camp

This intimate luxury camp, operated by the reliable Asilia chain, is located in the heart of the Serengeti in Tanzania and moves twice a year to ensure proximity to wildlife. The camp offers a high-standard of accommodation without pretension.

Accommodation at Olakira Tented Camp

The camp boasts only 8 tents. All are large, with king-size beds. The tents benefit from private verandas and en suitebathrooms with 24 hour hot water, showers and flush-toilets. Rooms are also supplied with 24 hour solar electricity.

Rooms are pleasantly decorated, offering simple-luxury style, each with a small work desk and outdoor furniture on the veranda. Beds are comfortable and guests will often be provided with hot-water bottles.

Food and Drink at Olakira Tented Camp

Olakira’s restaurant is located in an open-walled thatched tent with a wonderful atmosphere and great views of the Serengeti in Tanzania.

The camp offers a good selection of well prepared, good quality food. Cooked breakfasts as well as muesli, fruit and other cold options are available as well as plated lunches and dinners. The camp’s chefs will go out of their way to ensure dietary requirements are met if given advance notice. While food is generally of a high standard it can vary. In some locations and at certain times of the week/ year options are more limited and below standard for the price paid.

The camp can also arrange bush picnics and packed lunches as well as private dining.

A variety of soft and alcoholic drinks are available at the lodge.

Service at Olakira Tented Camp

Staff at the camp as well as its guides are friendly and knowledgeable. The camp is well cared for a clean. Camp guards are diligent to protect guests and guide them to tents. The size of the camp allows for a more personal style of service which many guests find preferable.

While the service is generally good the camp has had several incidents of theft. This is not uncommon in safari lodges however and it is very much advised that guests keep any valuables/ cash on them at all times, rather than in tents, or that guests bring locking luggage. Olakira does note provide safes.

The camp is well located for a variety of game drives regardless of season on account of its migratory nature.
