Gibb’s Farm

Gibb’s farm offers alternative safari accommodation. Rather than standard camp or lodge style accommodation, rooms are housed in luxury cottages on the grounds of a working farm.

Accommodation at Gibb’s Farm

Surrounding the old farmhouse are some 18 recently renovated cottages. They are all large, approximately 95 square meters. Each is unique and is named after a theme. The artwork that adorns each cottage is specific to that theme and was commissioned as part of a community arts programme called Sanaa.

Each cottage features a private veranda, outdoor shower, fireplace, bathtub, two large queen-size beds and a sitting area.  The decor is elegant and comfortable with bags of personality.

Food and Drink at Gibb’s Farm

Food is fresh, top quality and carefully prepared. Being based on a farm the hotel makes good use of the various fresh organic produce readily available. Plated dinners are filling and wholesome and breakfasts are good too (though less exciting perhaps). There is often the chance to join the staff in roasting your own coffee to drink.

The dining area is located at the heart of the old farmhouse which is a very pleasant bonus, though many guests miss the outside or wall-less dining areas that are predominant in the region’s camps and lodges.

The farmhouse also offers comfortable bar and seating areas where guests can enjoy a drink. The quality of wines on offer is very good and the farm also offers a fair selection of other beverages (alcoholic and none).

Service at Gibb’s Farm

Staff are friendly and offer a professional and attentive service. As you are staying on a working farm, they will also go out of their way to make you feel like part of the farm itself. Many guests compare the experience of a stay at Gibb’s Farm to actually owning a farm in the heart of the bush.

Services include laundry (though oddly this must be brought to reception).

Gibb’s Farm has one of the most detailed and interesting websites provided by any safari accommodation in Tanzania, visit their website for a host on useful information about the hotel, its history and various safaris.

Things to do at Gibb’s Farm

The farm offers a number of exclusive activities as well as being well located for game drives in the Ngorongoro area. These include farm tours, coffee roasting, tours of waterfalls and elephant caves, bird-watching, forest walks, cultural tours, visits to the local primary school, a Karatu Town visit, hippo pools safari at sunset, village cycle tours and a Manyara NP Night Drive. Some activities are included in the full-board package, others are charged at a minimal extra cost.
